History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of time.


At Key Stage One pupils will develop an awareness of the past using words and phrases relating to the passage of time. They are taught about changes within living memory and events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally. Pupils learn about significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements.


Pupils will develop an understanding of where their studies fit within a chronological framework and identify similarities and differences between ways of life in different frameworks. During the course of their time they will study: The Great Fire Of London, Guy Fawkes, Louis Braille, Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, Changes in Technology and Brunel.

The Great Fire


The Great Fire was recreated by year one and two children at the school for a history project. Luckily Mr Thompson and Mrs Ansell were present to distinguish the fire and stopped it spreading!
